Introduction
The Residence Hall Association (RHA) is a student government, much like
student council, founded to represent the residents of the Georgia
Institute of Technology in student matters. It also provides a wide
variety of educational and social programs for all residents to enjoy.
Every student who lives in a residence hall has the opportunity to get
involved and improve everyone's residence hall living experience.
Membership
All residents of Georgia Tech campus housing are automatically members
of the Residence Hall Association and are eligible to join RHA committees.
Residents are welcome at meetings of the hall councils as well as the RHA
Legislative Council. There are many opportunities to get involved. You
could find yourself running a hall council, presiding over a judicial
board, attending a conference somewhere in the United States or becoming
an Executive Board member. You never know what a difference you can make
until you try.
Hall Councils
Hall Councils are made up of officers and residents. Officer elections
are generally held at the first and second meeting of Fall Semester, except
for some upperclassmen halls that elect at the end of Spring Semester.
Hall Councils are responsible for providing programming such as socials,
speakers, intramural teams, and more. They are given money each semester
from the residents' activity fees to sponsor and run their activities.
They also are members of the Legislative Council where they represent
their hall amongst the other campus halls. During the summer, the Hall
Councils are area-based, one for East Campus and one for West Campus.

Programs
One of the main functions of RHA is to Organize campus programs and
events. Over the past several years, hall councils, programs boards, and
the RHA executive board ran some great, campus-wide functions such as:
- Skydiving Trips
- Panama City Beach Trips
- Intramural sports
- SpeedZone outings
- Paintball
By participating in RHA on any level, you can truly help make a difference
in the social life at Georgia Tech, meet a number of people, and
participate in functions that have a large influence over Tech campus life.
Conferences
The Legislative Council, which is comprised of representatives from
every hall council, sends delegates to at least three conferences every
year. These include the Georgia Residence Hall Organization (GRHO),
the South Atlantic Affiliate of College and University Residence Halls (SAACURH),
and the National Association of College and University Residence Halls (NACURH).
RHA sends delegates to these conferences annually and they meet people from around the
state, Southeast, and from all over the nation. Everyone has a lot of fun learning about
new programs and improving their own RHA.
Funding
So how does the Residence Hall Association get the money to implement
so many great programs? Actually, most of our funds come from residents'
own housing fees. When you write that check for housing each semester,
fourteen (14) dollars of that amount goes straight to RHA. Other sources of income
include profits from annual sheet sales and semesterly exam kit sales.
A percentage of the profits from both exam kit and sheet sales go to the
Residence Hall Activity Fund. RHA then uses this fund for
campus-wide programs, individual hall council activities, and various
other ventures such as the subsidizing of a feature programs channel on the Georgia Tech Cable
Network. For Summer Semester, RHA does not meet as an organization. But
the needs and activities of the students are met again through Summer
Residence Hall Activity fees. All fourteen (14) dollars you pay goes right back to
you for Summer Hall Council Activities. So get out there and plan some
exciting events!
Newsgroups
The Residence Hall Association has four (4) newsgroups to help communicate to the
residents of Georgia Tech Housing. Anyone can join any or all of the newsgroups.
They are a great source of information about what is going on and anything that has
come up since the last Legislative Council
